MBBS under Tribhuvan University (TU)

Tribhuvan University started MBBS in 1978. The eligibility criteria for the MBBS degree under TU are as follows:

  • Students who have completed Plus 2 in Science under Biology group or Plus 2 equivalent with English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as main subjects can join the MBBS program.
  • Marks must not be less than 50 percent in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. They must also take the entrance exam conducted by TU, Institute of Medicine, and should qualify for that particular academic year.
  • International students should also appear in the entrance test conducted by IOM and should qualify for that year.
  • Selection for the MBBS program will be on a merit basis and toppers will be nominated for scholarships from the Ministry of Education

MBBS under Kathmandu University (KU)

Kathmandu University started the MBBS program under their academic school called Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences in collaboration with Dhulikhel Hospital. The eligibility criteria for the MBBS program under KU are as follows:

  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.4 in high school, with C+ grades in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and at least a C in other subjects. Alternatively, a Bachelor of Science from another university with relevant subjects is accepted.
  • Those who have completed the Health Science certificate from Dhulikhel Medical Institute and an equivalent of Plus 2 Science Biology with at least 50 percent marks can also apply for the MBBS program.
  • Admission will depend on entrance exam scores, with the MBBS entrance exam carrying a total of 100 marks

MBBS under B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS)

BPKIHS also provides an MBBS program where the eligibility criteria are that:

  • The candidates applying should have passed the Plus 2 exam or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with 50 percent marks at least in all subjects and their total aggregates.
  • The applicants must be at least 17 years of age as of the date of the entrance test to be eligible to apply for the MBBS program.

This is a four and half years program with one year of rotating internship. Entrance will consist of 200 marks of multiple choice questions. Selection for the program will be made on a merit basis.

MBBS under Patan Academy

Patan Academy, offering an MBBS program, is a non-profit tertiary academic institution that has had a School of Medicine to teach prospective doctors since 2010. Patan Academy runs an MBBS program which is five years plus one year of internship. To be eligible for the MBBS program under Patan Academy:

  • Applicants must have completed Plus 2 with Science or Health Science under general medicine, medical lab technology, ophthalmic science, dental science, and pharmacy backgrounds and should pass the PCB group with a minimum of 50 percent in each subject and aggregate.
  • Health Science background students must have valid level 2 (kha) registration from the Nepal Health Profession Council and PCL students should have registered with the Nepal Pharmacy Council.
  • Applicants must have completed 17 years of age and should not have exceeded 40 years at the time of submission of application.

The entrance test will be based on multiple choice questions on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; and Mental Agility test with Situational Judgement tests. Students securing below 50 percent will be considered failed and below 2 standard deviations in aptitude tests will also be marked as failed. Selection will be based on the entrance result and also the structured admission OSCE interview.
